Now, at THE COLOR DASH, we know that running isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but we encourage you to change it up! Rather than dashing AWAY from something, try dashing TOWARDS something this year. Just COLOR DASH. Not for any reason. Dash for fun. Just Dash, because.

9th Birthday is a Gift to CCC kids!
TAMPA, FEB 28 – Thank you to Marisa who surprised the CCC today by donating a check, Toys 'R' Us gift card and toys/games worth over $100!
The Tampa 9 year old with a charitable heart secured the donations for our families by requesting that friends and family of her own buy gifts for the Children's Cancer Center kids rather than for her.
Now that's a gift which is priceless….
THANK YOU MARISA – and HAPPY BIRTHDAY from all the Children & Families of the Children's Cancer Center!
The team of Tampa Bay Tijuana Flats Burrito Co. and their internal charitable organization, the Just In Queso Foundation, delivered a check to the Children's Cancer Center today for $2,450 – - now that's enough to make us say 'cheese!'
The donation is only the first in a year-long campaign devised by Nate McCabe, Area Supervisor of Tijuana Flats Burrito Co., and Ben Kuykendall, Development Manager of Just In Queso Foundation. The first year committment – between the Foundation and a series of both monthly and quarterly contributions from nine Bay area restaurants – will be to the tune of $12,000.
“We’re so excited about the deepening partnership with both Tijuana Flats and Just In Queso," said Steve Manuel, CCC Director of Development. "The Tampa Bay children and families we serve will benefit substantially as as result of this generous social giving campaign.”
The funds are earmarked for a new CCC program called FUELING FAMILIES which provides gas and grocery cards to families throughout the year and especially during the holidays when financial pressures are at their greatest.
On behalf of all the families we serve, please support these Bay area businesses as our way of saying THANK YOU to Tijuana Flats Burrito Co. and Just In Queso Foundation!
When Mikayla L. from Palmetto turned 9 years old last week, she could have asked for a lot of things for her birthday. What 9 year old girl wouldn't love a new Barbie, some clothes or the cooelst new MP3 downloads?
And of course Mikayla did ask for presents – but not for herself. Instead, this selfless young lady asked that her parents buy presents for the children we serve at the Children's Cancer Center.
We are extremely appreciative and applaud Mikayla for her generosity.
THANK YOU MIKAYLA!
JAN 29TH – TAMPA - The winter holidays may conjure images of perfectly wrapped presents to many of us, but to the philanthropic students of Jefferson High School's "Florida Public Service Association" (FPSA) the real gift is the gift of giving back. Each year the group sells specially designed and published Children's Cancer Center holiday cards to fellow students, staff, families and friends to raise funds for the Children's Cancer Center and our programs.
This year the group again exceeded $500, presenting us today with a check for nearly $533. Thank you to FPSA student President, Brittney Adamski, Mr. Antonio Rodriguez, Director of the Academy and faculty advisor to the FPSA, and all the members of the Association for their efforts on behalf of our children and families!
The Children's Cancer Center and two of its families – the Scheerhorns and LeSpatas – appeared on Good Morning America and also ABC World News with Diane Sawyer as the story of FSU Lineman Mikey Scheerhorn's generosity went viral!
Mikey is no stranger to the CCC. His brother Daniel is now a survivor of brain cancer, and Mikey, Daniel and the entire Scheerhorn family continue to be served by teh support programs of the CCC.
When Mikey learned that his team – the FSU Seminoles – were to play in the BCS National Championship game at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA., Mikey decided this was the perfect chance for him to 'pay forward' the support he received from the CCC…
…So he offered us two exclusive tickets to the game for one of our parents and children currently on treatment. What's more, the generous hearted lineman wanted to raise the necessary funds to send the family to the game – all expenses paid.
So we helped him set up a crowdrise page to crowdfund…and watched as he not only raised the anticipated expenses of $5,000, but exceeded over $12,000, the balance going into other CCC family programs.
The rest is now viral history. The story ran on local Fox news, Bay News 9, Tallahasse's NBC station, a plethora of more than 50 major websites…
…And then came the call from Good Morning America producer, Emily Stanitz, and Mikey, Jayden (the patient recipient who won the essay competition for this FSU fan's chance of a lifetime) and the CCC were suddenly in the national spotlight.
We couldn't be more proud of Mikey, the Scheerhorns, the LeSpata family and everyone here at the Center who made all of this possible.
Oh yes, and we should add a roaring, "GO NOLES!" to the new Florida State BCS Champions!
